California Dangerous Highways

California has many dangerous roadways like the “Grapevine” or the “Cajon Pass”, but no matter which road you are on, you have the right to drive in safety. If you are involved in a California truck accident due to the negligence of the driver, the trucking company, or both, call The Garcia Law Firm toll free at 800-281-8515. We will fight to make sure you are compensated for all your expenses and pain and suffering.
Truck accidents often result in severe or even fatal injuries because cars are not made to withstand the impact of a vehicle like an 18 Wheeler truck or bus. In California we average slightly over 400 fatal truck accidents a year. In addition to those accidents that involve a wrongful death there are another 10,000 non-fatal one that result in all types of injuries.

You have already suffered from the accident, your life has drastically changed and it makes sense that you just want this to be over with. Talk to our attorneys first! After an accident, the insurance adjustor will want to settle as quickly as possible for as little as possible.  Don´t make the mistake of settling for an offer that a trained insurance adjuster will offer you. They are trained to get you the least amount of compensation. It has been our experience that injury victims do not understand how severe their injuries are, how much time away from work they will have to take, or how much money will be necessary for medical care and expenses. Give our truck accident lawyers a call and let us make sure that you aren´t injured again. The longer you wait to get proper representation the more potential damage you face. Waiting can adversely affect your case and important evidence can disappear, so call immediately and get a free consultation. There is no cost to you unless we win your truck accident injury case.

California Trucking Laws

California is one of the few states that impose a slower speed limit for commercial trucks, big rigs and semi-trucks. If a commercial truck exceeds the 55 mph speed limit by more than 15 mph, the driver will receive a ticket and be charged with a misdemeanor. Statistics show that 20 percent of all big rig accidents are caused by excessive speed.

California, one of the most populated states in the country, has daily bumper-to-bumper traffic. The California Department of Transportation is responsible for keeping all roads and freeways safe and free of dangerous situations. California has many road designs, which range from straight freeway driving, to one-lane mountain roads, to curvy roads.

California has overtime laws for truck drivers, which regulate the hours of service for drivers. Legislature requires that drivers be regulated by the Department of Transportation or the Department of Labor – not both.
California Vehicle Code requires the California Highway Patrol to adopt hours of service for interstate and intrastate drivers. These should be consistent with those used by the United States Department of Transportation´s Code of Federal Regulations.

Roads Prohibited
California vehicle code states that vehicles at a certain weight are not allowed to operate on certain roads.
Effective August 2009, commercial vehicles with three or more axles or a weight of more than 9,000 pounds are prohibited on Route 2 between Interstate 210 in La Canada and County Route N4, Big Pines Highway.
