Interstate 95 reopens after big-rig crash

A semi-truck hauling several types of chemicals, including battery acid and petroleum, crashed near the New Dunn Avenue overpass of Interstate 95 in Ormond Beach, closing it down.

Florida Highway Patrol reported that the truck was traveling south on Interstate 95 when it blew a tire.  The driver crashed into several barriers in the median, ruptured the saddle tanks, causing the truck to burst into flames.  The driver was taken to a nearby hospital.

FHP is investigating the accident.  It is believed that the petroleum inside the truck may have damaged the pavement, which had to be repaved.
