A 52-year old semi-tractor trailer driver who caused a major traffic jam on Interstate 4 in Altamonte Springs the other day apparently fell asleep at the wheel, according to Florida Highway Patrol. He said he remembers being tired but can’t remember anything else.
According to witnesses, the driver was weaving in and out of traffic. His log book shows he was in compliance with rules and regulations, which state how many hours a day (no more than 10 consecutive hours) a driver can drive and how many hours of sleep are required (a break is required of not less than 10 hours).
He is being charged with careless driving. If you are charged with “falling asleep at the wheel” or careless driving because of it, contact an experienced Florida Trucking Accident attorney who will discuss your rights with you.
